What is actually different about a copy screen?

The panel is aftermarket, not Apple’s. Expect differences in colour and white point, peak brightness and off-axis viewing, and sometimes in how the touch feels. It restores a working display; it does not match the original’s behaviour.

When is a copy the right choice?

On an older handset, or when the customer needs a working phone at the lowest cost. Just tell them what grade they are getting — the complaints come from customers who were not told, not from those who chose it knowingly.

Will True Tone still work?

Accepted Answer

True Tone data lives on the original panel, so it is lost whenever a display is swapped — on any grade, including a genuine Apple one. Restoring it means transferring the original screen's data across with a programmer such as a JCID unit. Budget for that step if the customer expects True Tone back on their iPhone 15.

Does replacing the screen break Face ID?

Accepted Answer

No. Face ID lives on the front sensor assembly, not the display, so it survives a screen swap — provided you carefully transfer the original sensor assembly to the new screen. Damage that assembly and Face ID is gone for good, because it is factory paired to the phone.
