The M.Y 71 Ultra — a black trinocular stereo zoom microscope mounted on a pillar over a wide, flat base plate. A stereo microscope has two separate optical paths, which is what produces real depth perception. That is the whole reason board work needs one: you are judging how far an iron tip is above a pad, and a single flat magnified image cannot tell you that. The base is the practical difference here. A small round stage forces you to work over the pillar with a board hanging off the edge; a wide flat plate leaves room for the board, a holding fixture and your hands, all under the objective at once. On a bench where every job involves a jig, that space is worth more than a specification line suggests. It carries a third port for a camera alongside the two eyepieces, so a monitor setup does not cost you an eyepiece.
