Hard or soft — which should I buy?

Hard holds its edge much longer and suits straight runs; it snaps if you lever it. Soft flexes around curves but dulls sooner. Keeping both on the bench is the usual answer.

Why did my blade snap?

Hard-tempered steel does not bend. If the cut needs the blade to follow a curve or you are levering with it, use the soft DA95 instead.
