Blades and rotary tools for the mechanical side of repair — underfill and glue removal blades, screen openers, polishing pens and grinders. Underfill blades in particular are ground for one job: splitting hardened epoxy off a logic board without the edge deflecting into the components beside the chip.
Hand-finished blades cost more because the edge is genuinely sharper at this scale, and sharper means less force. Less force is what keeps neighbouring components attached to the board. Change blades early and buy them in packs — a rolled edge is what turns a routine job into a lifted pad.
It is the epoxy flowed under large chips to stop solder joints cracking. It cures very hard and bonds to the board as well as the chip, so it has to be split away mechanically rather than melted off.
At this scale a hand-ground edge is meaningfully sharper than a machine-ground one, so it parts hardened glue with less force. Less force is exactly what keeps the components beside the chip on the board.
