Cutting wire diameter matters more than technicians expect. The wire has to pass through the adhesive between glass and panel without pressing on the display, so thinner slides through where thicker cracks panels. Always warm the assembly first — pulling wire through cold adhesive needs force, and force breaks panels.

Because the wire passes between the glass and the panel. Thin wire slides through the adhesive layer; thicker wire loads the panel underneath and cracks it.
Is a heated separator better than a heat gun?
For screens, considerably. A plate holds a set temperature evenly across the whole panel, where a gun gives you a moving hot spot and a lot of guesswork.
