Why do I need flux if my solder has a rosin core?

Because the core flux burns off the moment the wire touches the iron. Rework — lifting a chip, drawing solder with wick, reflowing a joint — needs flux present throughout, and that has to come from a bottle.

Do I have to clean it off afterwards?

Yes. Residue is mildly conductive and draws moisture, so it creates leakage paths between pads. Clean with isopropyl alcohol and a brush before reassembly — that is how a good repair stays good.

How should I store it?

Sealed and cool. Flux degrades on exposure to air, and tired flux simply does not strip oxide the way fresh flux does.
